Osler grew up in the 1890s along the Qu'Appelle, Long Lake and Saskatchewan Railroad. Surveying began in 1890 by the engineering firm of Osler, Hammond and Nanton, and the station house went up in 1892. The town came into existence soon after, one of many towns and villages to spring up along the new line.
